Reproducing Historic Textiles
taught by Kate Smith
This weekend workshop will focus on what goes into the reproduction of historic textiles. Students may bring the piece that they wish to replicate of take inspiration from the pieces that we have from the collection of Tremblay/McGovern. We will discuss approrpriate yarns, weave structure, etc. Students may then choose to weave their piece at home or come to one of the alumni retreats and weave it under supervision.
Date: February 24 - 25, 2024 9am - 5pm with a break for lunch on Saturday and 9am - noon on Sunday

Warp-weighted Loom Study Group

Join us for a dive into topics related to the warp-weighted loom! This group is for anyone interested in learning more about this ancient tool- students and researchers, textile history enthusiasts and re-enactors, and new and experienced warp weighted loom practitioners. Our goal is to create community, provide inspiration, and share useful technical information about the warp-weighted loom in this series of online presentations and conversations. Facilitated by Andrea Myklebust, each month’s session explores different aspects of using this ancient tool, or will feature a guest presenter.

Weaving & Sewing a Wool Jacket
taught by Noel Guetti

As part of the ongoing Woven Wardrobe Series, this year we will feature the Woolen Jacket.
During this two week class we will
- weave a thick wool twill fabric, with checks/stripes and
traditional tweed options
- create a custom fitted jacket pattern
- practice various seam finishes for heavy handwoven fabrics
- learn useful outerwear techniques like welted pockets, linings,
facings, hand-sewn buttonholes, and more
As we weave and sew our garments, we also weave ourselves together. These are not the only clothes we’ll ever need - threads will wear thin, our bodies will change. By putting our time and attention into connection and relationship, we’re not only building the skills to clothe ourselves into the future, but also forging a community to support us in doing that, company for the task ahead.
Date: March 2 - 13, 2026
Cost: $1500 plus materials
